The Trafford South Asian Mental Health Service was set up in April 1995 to work with South Asian individualís (aged 18 years and above) experiencing mental ill-health, their carers, families and communities who reside within the borough of Trafford. South Asian refers to individuals whose origin/heritage is from Pakistan, India or Bangladesh. The team can converse in Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and English. The service is community based, located at Broome House.
"To ensure that culturally sensitive and appropriate services are AVAILABLE, ACCESSIBLE, APPROPRIATE and EFFECTIVE".
  • Tackle the stigma associated with the mental ill-health.
  • Increase service users, their carers and communities knowledge and understanding of mental ill-health.
  • Reduce symptoms of mental ill-health and the incidents of relapse.
  • Raise the awareness of early detection by recognising the signs and symptoms of mental illness.
  • Raise the awareness of the personal and social factors that could contribute towards mental distress.
  • Increase the level of confidence and empower service users to engage with services.
  • Promote positive physical and mental well-being
  • Increase service users, carers and the communities knowledge of local services.
  • Signpost individuals to other specialist services i.e. benefits agency, housing, immigration, legal etc.
Two culturally sensitive and appropriate drop-inís have also been set up for male and female service users and carers, which is community based. For further information please click on Activities

  Referral Form (We have an open referral system and accept self referrals, referrals by carers, family members as well as professionals. For statutory services, the organisationís own assessment form (i.e. Multi-Disciplinary Assessment form) and a risk assessment, if applicable, with a covering letter will be accepted as a form of referral.)

  Zehni Sehat - which is aimed at service users, carers and community members. This is also available in the main South Asian languages of Urdu, Punjabi, Gujrati, Hindi & Bangla and is available on request.
