The Pakistani Resource Centre is a registered charity and a voluntary organisation which was established in 1966 as a result of concerns expressed by the community regarding the lack of advice and information available for the South Asian Communities in Greater Manchester. The Centre helps provide support to the South Asian Communities in mental health, welfare rights, counselling, domestic violence, learning disabilities and the criminal justice system.
The Pakistani Resource Centre helps over 10,000 people every year through our services, drop-in clinics, support groups and by providing information on various issues.
Our aim is to make a practical and positive difference by providing support and empowerment to the South Asian Communities (Pakistani, Indian, and Bangladeshi) within the Greater Manchester. To confront some of the problems they may be experiencing including unemployment, poor housing in inner city areas, racial abuse and cultural alienation.
We provide essential services which reflect the needs of the South Asian Communities in the manner which is religiously and culturally sensitive to Service Users in the Greater Manchester area. Some of our services include providing counselling, emotional and practical support to individuals experiencing mental ill health and their carers and family. We provide support to victims of domestic violence; we also work in the field of criminal justice.
We provide statutory mainstream services and other voluntary organisations with information about Asian ideas of personhood, culture and belief systems.
Volunteer & Student Placement
The Centre actively recruits volunteers, we provide training courses and specialised conferences to help develop their skills within our different services.
The Centre takes on board student placements from various Social Work courses to gain experience within our services.
